Hydroxyprogesterone is a long-acting progesterone with progesterone activity 7 times that of progesterone and no estrogenic activity. After intramuscular injection, it is deposited locally, slowly released, and exerts a long-lasting effect, maintaining the time for 1 to 2 weeks.
